Little is currently known about the history of this board and batten settlers cottage, although based on its style, was likely constructed in the 1860s-70s period.

A scrapbook on Urenui history from the early 1990s simply notes this house was built in 1874, although no reasoning is given for this date.

It is located on part of Rural Allotment No. 3, Urenui District, and the original portion of the present home is clearly marked on DP2752, surveyed in 1909, with Mary Anne Jenkins noted as the owner.
