Serviceman Frederick (Fred) Henry Ainsworth was born in 1916 in Waitara, the son of William and Evelyn Ainsworth. Before the war he worked as a labourer in New Plymouth. He married Jacova Stangy Maude Crowley in 1939.
During World War Two he served as a Private in the 25th (Wellington) Battalion of the 2nd NZEF. Frederick died in 1995.
