The section was gifted by Captain Thomas Wilson, and the church was completed late in 1888.The following year the church was lined (£18-4-3), an organ purchased (£22-10-0), and a font purchased (£4-10-).
St Paul's Church remained unaltered until 1969, when St John's Church in Waitara provided a number of items including; a vestry, basin, built-in sink unit, and a toilet.
The Lych Gate at the entrance was dedicated by the Bishop of Waikato, Rev. John Holland, on 12 April 1970.
