King and Queen Hotel Suites (2013)

Construction of the hotel, located on the corner of the King and Queen Streets, commenced in 2012. The developers were the Boddington and Macfarlane families. The Boddington family had purchased the site in the early 1990s. The architects were Chapman Oulsam Spiers. The hotel was profiled by the Taranaki Daily News in March 2013 as it neared completion.  

The King & Queen Hotel Suites opened in June 2013. The complex includes; boutique accommodation, office space and a penthouse suite.

This is part of old town section number 642. In 1943 a house on the site, believed to have been built in the 1850s, was demolished - it can be seen in this 1941 photograph by Fred Butler (Collection of Puke Ariki ARC 2013-1426). This had been occupied until 1874 by the postal official, Mr Henry Bailey. In 1875 it became the meeting place of the Loyal Excelsior Lodge. Prior to demolition it was last occupied by Miss. M. Simpson.

In 1954 Ibbotson Bros Ltd. built a service station on this corner site. The business re-located to the corner of  Seaview Road and Devon Street West in 1971.
