James Way's small bootmakers shop was located on the north-side of Devon Street East, between Liardet and Gover Streets - 382 (now 151) Devon Street East.

The shop was located adjacent to the family's six roomed house. The house and shop appear to straddle two Town Sections: the eastern section of 903 and the western half of 904. James Way purchased the western part of 904 in 1874, while Certificate of Title TNXI/35 indicates he bought the eastern part of 903 in 1893 - perhaps he was leasing it prior to this?

James Way died at his residence on Devon Street East on 19 June 1915. The shop and house were advertised for sale in the Taranaki Daily News in October 1917. While it seems likely that the shop was demolished not long after, the house was not demolished until August 1938.
