This seat on the track from Dawson Falls Tourist Lodge to Hooker Shelter commemorates the ascent of Everest in 1953. A few weeks after the successful ascent, the Mt. Egmont Alpine Club committee agreed to mark the event by erecting a seat in the Dawson Falls area. However, it wasn't until April 1956 that the club held a working bee to transport the concrete blocks, shingle and cement up to the chosen site, at the three-quarter mile peg on the main track above Dawson Falls. This was followed a week later by a visit from block-laying and rough-casting experts to complete the job.

In 2004 the seat was completely demolished and re-built by Hawera's Mt Egmont Alpine Club.
