This is a roadside memorial to those killed during the raid on Pukearuhe settlement in February 1869. This memorial - unveiled on 18 July 2008 - was the initiative of a heritage group, SOS (Save our Sites). It was to replace the cairn to the Reverend John Whiteley on the nearby Pukearuhe pā which was demolished as part of Ngāti Tama's Raupatu settlement in 2006.
