Warea Soldiers' Cemetery / Brady's Grave (1867)

The Wārea Soldiers' Cemetery on Stent Road is also known locally as "Brady's Grave". John Brady of the Number 6 Company of Taranaki Military Settlers was killed on 28 February 1867 at the Moukoro Stream, some 7km south of the Wārea Redoubt. His body was recovered and brought back to the redoubt some days later before being buried nearby.

The gravesite is situated on the seaward side of a small knoll, approximately 350 metres from the mouth of the Teikaparua (Warea) River, on the right (northern) bank of the river. Across the stream are the earthworks of Tarakihi pā.

Brady's Grave is on privately owned land.
