This roadside memorial was unveiled on Anzac Day 1922 by the local M.P. Mr R. Masters. The combined memorial (Whangamomona, Kohuratahi and Tahora) listed forty-two local men killed in World War I. Over 300 people were present for the unveiling of the impressive granite memorial. Much credit for the project was due to local man Mr Albert Perry (also a returned soldier) who had shouldered much of the secretarial and fundraising burden.
