The foundation stone for this building (originally built as the new St Mary's Sunday School) was laid on 11 October 1916, by Rev. H. Reeve, Archdeacon of Waitotara. It was designed by Hāwera architect John Duffill and the contractor was James Alderton. It was finished remarkably quickly and officially opened on 7 December 1916. It was later dedicated as a peace memorial.
The memorial hall was demolished in 2021.
