The grandstand at Taumata Park in Eltham was erected in 1957 as a memorial to the servicemen and women from Eltham who lost their lives in WW II. A plaque depicting an airman, a soldier and a sailor with the words 'Pro Patria: 1939-1945' is located above the players' entrance to the grandstand.
It was opened by Egmont Member of Parliament, Mr E. B. Corbett, on 16 March 1957. The dedication service was conducted by Padre E.R. le Couteur, representing the Eltham Ministers' Association.
