The Dudlley Road School log book records that on 16 April 1945 a "large and enthusiastic householders' meeting...decided to enter upon a campaign for collection of funds to build school baths". Despite this early momentum, it was not until 1 March 1950 that a working bee commenced excavating for the school baths. The following week Education Board tradesman and local labour continued work on the pool - boxing placed in position, drains dug and the concreting completed. The school committee minutes of a meeting on 5 December 1950 records that "Decided to leave opening of Baths until after the holidays". No record can be found of an official opening day, but presumably the children were using the pool at the beginning of term in 1951.
A memorial plaque was located at end of the baths. The baths were demolished in 2009 and the text of the plaque transferred to the WWI obelisk nearby.
