The Kash Menswear was owned by J. J. Lomas. The business premises above were designed in 1925 by well-known New Plymouth architect, Thomas H. Bates. Taking about six months to finish, the building was completed in December 1925 and was described in some detail by the Taranaki Daily News on 3 December 1925.
Bates also designed Lomas' Upper Brougham Street house in 1924.
