The Taranaki Club was established in 1892 and occupied premises in Egmont Street before these clubrooms, designed by Thomas H. Bates, opened on 3 August 1922. The Taranaki Daily News reported on 21 May 1921 (p.4) the estimated construction cost was "over £10,000" and the successful tender came from Mr. A.B. Burrell from Hāwera.
The club amalgamated with the Commercial Traveller's Club in 1993 but the building was sold soon after and briefly became a functions centre. It is now apartments.
