'Scotlands' - named after the original owner of the farmland - was the boarding hostel for New Plymouth Girls' High School and was funded by the Old Girls' Association after a dedicated fund-raising effort. It opened on 1 February 1928, built at a cost of £23,900 with accommodation for 84 boarders. It was designed by noted New Plymouth architect Thomas H. Bates.

The building was replaced in 1987.
