Ronald Eric Joseph Mawson, born on 28 November 1918, was the son of Erick and Ivy (nee McGonnell) Mawson. Ron grew up in Waiongana.

Trained as a pharmacist, he was working in New Plymouth when World War Two started. During the war he served in the medical corps and was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

After the war he returned to New Plymouth, married Rona Joyce Marshall Portway in 1946, and opened his own chemist store on the Morley St/Devon St intersection. Later, he operated out of premises on the Mangorei Rd/Karaka St intersection.

Ron played lower-grade cricket for the New Plymouth Old Boys’ club and later managed teams in the 1970s.

Rona died in 2009. Ron Mawson died on 30 July 2017, aged 98.
