Frederick, Arthur and Roy Lehndorf were the sons of William and Minnie Lehndorf of Waitara and three of six siblings. All three men served overseas during World War Two.
Arthur Cyril Lehndorf was born 15 December 1916. He worked in Waitara as a butcher before enlisting with the 36 Infantry Battalion, D Company and also in N Force. He died in Waitara in 1995.
Frederick Martin and Roy Melvin Lehndorf were twins and were born on 27 April 1920. Frederick married Irene Wilson Carter before the war and lived in Wellington where he worked as a postman. During the war he served as a signalman with the 2nd New Zealand Divisional Signals.
Roy worked as a butcher in Waitara before the war and married Margaret Mary Rae. They had one son before he enlisted as a Private with the 25th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in active service on 24 September 1944 in Italy. He is buried at the Cesena War Cemetery, Italy.
