Conrad Walter Jury was born in 1922, the son of Les and Ada (nee Homes) Jury of New Plymouth, the youngest of seven siblings.
He started working as a plasterer at the age of 15, after attending New Plymouth Boy's High School for one year. He was a keen swimmer and skier, and a member of the East End Surf Club and Taranaki Alpine Club.
He joined the army at the age of 22 in 1942 and sailed for the Middle East in 1943. He was posted to the 25th Infantry Battalion in Italy and upon arrival in Italy was quickly involved in intense fighting.
During fighting for the Arezzo Heights in central Italy he was severely wounded and eventually died of his wounds on 17 July 1944. He is buried in the Assisi War Cemetery.
