Lawrence Vernon Cosbrook was born 24 May 1909 in New Plymouth. He was the son of George (1857-1937) and Ada Bertha (nee Cole) (1874-1937) and was one of nine siblings.
His oldest brother, Andrew John Cosbrook (1893-1918) served in World War One and was killed in action in Flanders, France on 3 September 1918.
Lawrence (sometimes spelt Laurence) married Agnes Mary Trengrove Parfitt on 24 April 1937. In August of the same year, he lost both of his parents when they died 5 days apart.
Lawrence enlisted in the Army during World War Two and served with the NZ Base Pay Office and then the NZ Army Pay Corps.
After the war he worked as a labourer. He died on 26 October 1978 and his buried in Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth.
