"Water Drives" are usually found in the mudstone (papa) country of inland Taranaki. They are short tunnels under roads which re-route streams and allowed the old watercourse to be filled thereby doing away with the need for bridges and culverts.
This drive, one of a number in the area, diverts an unnamed tributary of the Taumata Stream under the Mangaehu Road, Aotuhia.
