Wharehuia Church is located on Beaconsfield Road about 10km east of Stratford.
The church was built on land owned by Peter Wellington and sold to the church for the price of the survey. It was built by Mr. A. Davis who tendered a price of £163 12s.
The church opened for worship on Easter Sunday 11 April 1911. The service was conducted by the Rev. B. Metson of Hāwera.
According to the Stanley School and District Centennial (1995) the church has the distinction of being the first erected for the United Methodist Church in New Zealand.
A final service was held on Sunday 19 June 2011 to mark its 100th anniversary. It was sold to a local businessman who intended to restore it to its former state.
