The foundation stone for this small church at Tataraimaka was laid on the same day as St Paul's in Ōkato, 11 December 1897. Both churches were dedicated by Bishop Cowie of the Auckland Diocese on 25 January 1898.
A severe storm on 19 July 1966 blew the church off its piles. A decision was later made to dismantle the church and the final service was held on 14 July 1968. Demolition began in late September; furniture and fittings from the church were distributed among other churches in the diocese.
