St Patrick's Catholic Church on Eltham Road in Kaponga was opened and dedicated by Cardinal Delargey on 18 March 1978.

The need for a new church had been evident for some years, but it was not until 1977 that sufficient funds had been raised to allow the demolition of the old church and begin construction of a new one. The cost was estimated to be $135,000 - architect and builder are unknown.

The first Catholic church in Kaponga was built in the late 1890s on a site opposite the present Town Hall. As this was discovered to be swampy, the church was moved to the site of the present church.
