St Mary's Catholic Church in Toko was opened and blessed on 6 November 1966.It was the first Catholic church built in Toko, previously services had been held in the Toko Hall.
The Daily News reported that it was, "Capable of seating 100 people, the brick, asbestos and concrete construction is 50 feet by 26 feet."
The final mass was held in March 1976, after which the building was sold to the New Zealand Fire Service and converted into a fire station for the local volunteer brigade.
In February 2014 the building was demolished to make way for a new fire station.
