The decision to build an Anglican church in Whangamomona was made in 1920 and a fund was set up to raise the money required.
Archdeacon Evans laid the foundation stone on 28 September 1924 and the church was finished less than three months later. It was built by Alf Dugg and Laurie Smith at a total cost of £582.
The church was dedicated for worship by Bishop Averill (Auckland) on 13 November 1924.
It was originally part of the Taranaki East Parochial District and the Auckland Diocese. It was serviced mainly by travelling vicars - on horseback, bicycles and finally cars. In 1950 the district of Taranaki East transferred to the Parish of Stratford.
The church was deconsecrated at a service on 11 June 2015. The ownership was transferred to the Republic of Whangamomona Society Incorporated.
