This Catholic church on Ohura Road in Whangamomona was opened on 9 November 1919 by Dean McKenna (New Plymouth). The cost was estimated to be £700, with the Taranaki Herald reporting that enough money was subscribed during the day to almost completely clear the debt remaining.

The church was first part of the New Plymouth parish, then Inglewood and briefly an Eastern Taranaki district. When the population dwindled, care reverted first to Inglewood and from 1927 the Stratford parish.

The church celebrated its centenary on 9 November 2019 and also held its final mass. The church was deconsecrated after the service; its future is uncertain, although there are no plans for demolition.
