Until this church was built in 1915 local Presbyterian services were held in the Awatuna Hall. It was built on an elevated site on Eltham Road, on land donated by Mr S.R. Farquhar. It was built by Mr Greenhill of Auroa with timber supplied by George Syme & Co. in Hāwera.

The church was opened with a dedication service at 2.00 pm on 9 September 1915. This was followed by an afternoon tea and in the evening a social at the local hall.

In 1976 the local Methodist congregation united with the Presbyterians to form a co-operating parish. At the time of the Awatuna Centennial in 1993 the combined parish was meeting fortnightly in the Presbyterian Church.

The church was subsequently sold to a local farmer who moved it to Auroa Road and converted it into a house.

A plaque commemorating the site of the church has been erected on a layby about 1 km west of the Eltham/Auroa Road corner.
