National Savings Bonds were first issued in 1940. They were known as Victory Bonds and were redeemable in five years from the date of issue. They provided a way for the folks at home to support those serving in the armed forces and were a means of encouraging New Zealanders to save money and provide the Government with a revenue stream for the World War Two war effort.
