PA2008_105_a.jpg Fertiliser (1982). Petrolchemical Corporation of N. Z. Limited. Collection of Puke Ariki (PA2008.105).

Fertiliser may not be in the flash goodie bags dished out at fashion festivals but it made for the perfect Kāpuni corporate freebie in the early 1980s.

This specially labelled commemorative bag of fertiliser was given to National Party Cabinet Minister and MP for Taranaki, David Thomson, at the official opening of the Kāpuni ammonia-urea plant in 1982.

The plant was one of the Think Big projects promoted by the Muldoon government and it continues to manufacture fertiliser. Ballance Agri-Nutrients now operates the plant which produced 257,000 tonnes of fertiliser in 2007.
