PA2008_057_c.jpg T-shirt (2006). Collection of Puke Ariki (PA2008.057).

The scrawls of black felt pen on this T-shirt are a testament to a New Plymouth man's brush with the best triathletes in the world.

In recent years Taranaki has established itself as a leading multi-sport destination and has hosted three successful International Triathlon Union World Cup events since 2005. Local volunteers play a major role in the races by acting as marshals and support crew.

Morris West, who manned the competitors tent during the 2006 triathlon, took the chance to hunt for autographs on his shirt. The black scrawls spread all over it shows he had plenty of success.
