PA2019_010-001.jpg Dress (1928) Worn by Rose Reeve. Collection of Puke Ariki (PA2019.010).

Rose Reeve wore this dress to dances as a teenager during the 1920s. Dances were a central part of young people’s social life where they could hang out with their friends, meet new people and maybe find a special someone – all while carefully chaperoned of course!

Rose’s parents owned the dairy near the corner of St Aubyn Street and Belt Road and she worked there as a shop girl. Later, during her 20s, Rose’s parents employed Lyn Horsfall to work alongside her. Rose and Lyn quickly became more than just workmates and by 1936 celebrated their marriage.
