A82_809.jpg Penguin, Toy. Collection of Puke Ariki (A82.809).

Many well-loved childhood friends are tucked away in the Puke Ariki Heritage Collection. Now they are retired from their responsibilities as playmates and comforters, the frequently threadbare dolls and cuddly toys play the role of childhood memory joggers and are sure fire nostalgic winners.

This perky penguin with one missing eye, worn covering and a beak leaking stuffing was rescued from a second hand sale before being donated to the Taranaki Museum in the 1980s.
