The Women's Restroom and Plunket Rooms in Napier Street were officially opened by the Minister of Health, Miss Mabel Howard, on 1 August 1949.

The local community had been busy fundraising and the building was opened free of debt. The total cost of the project was £2,063-12-4 which included all additional expenditure such as landscaping and legal fees.

It was demolished in 2014.
