This dairy at 56 Wallace Place was demolished in 2012 to make way for two new townhouses. The main structure of the building was pulled down on 22 May 2012.
The history of this building goes back to 1929 when a grocers shop was built on the site for Mr. E.L. Mason. In 1937 the building was extended to include a fruit shop.
Major alterations were carried out in 1963, including a new façade (City Express advertisement 4 September 1963). The plans were drawn by the builders "R. Hoyle and Sons" and show the shop's façade to be the same as it was in 2012. The signwriting on the plans reads, "Wallace Place Foodstore Four Square at Your Service".
It is part of old town section number 570. Taranaki Land Deed Index Book I5 page 503.
