This square fronted villa was constructed for Thomas Drake in 1910 - the house was designed by noted New Plymouth architect Frank Messenger, who advertised for tenders for the erection of a cottage for Mr Thomas Drake at Fitzroy during March 1910.
Tenders were due to Messenger on 18 March, and the following day Drake took out a mortgage against the property, presumably to fund construction of the house.
Drake occupied the house until his death in 1917.
