This building at 48 Brougham Street (Town Section 682) is nestled between the old Salvation Army Citadel and the Grand Central Hotel.
Tenders for the building were called by the architect James Sanderson in January 1885 on behalf of the solicitor J.B. Roy. Another report in April describes the building in some detail. It is one of the oldest buildings remaining in the Central Business District.
John Barton Roy is listed as the occupier in the 1897-98 Stone's Directory, and he continued to run his legal practice from these premises for a number of years - as a partnership with Nicholson and later White.
