This attractive villa residence was one of a row of three villas (116, 118 & 120 Hine Street) constructed by timber firm Henry Brown & Co between about 1913 and 1916.
The house was purchased by clerk Albert William Robson in 1919, although he first appears as residing at this location in Hine Street in the 1917 edition of Wises Post Office Directory, and seems to have initially rented the property from Brown & Co.
122 Hine Street is part of a continuous row of five villas that make an important contribution to the streetscape - such a grouping of villas is now uncommon in New Plymouth.
