New Plymouth Girls' High School Gymnasium was designed by noted New Plymouth architect Thomas Herbert Bates in 1941.
Bates advertised for tenders in March 1941, and the successful bid was submitted by Boon Bros. Ltd.
The gymnasium was officially opened by the Minister of Education, the Hon. H.G.R. Mason on 15 November 1941.
