This large home in the English Cottage Style was constructed for Mrs A. E. Grant in 1933. The architects for this home were well known local firm Messenger and Taylor. They called for tenders in October 1933 for a "Two-storey Residence in Vivian Street", which could relate to this house.

A permit was granted by the Borough Council to Mrs A. E. Grant on 16 November 1933 for the construction of a residence on Part Town Section 328, Vivian Street - A. E. Kretschmar was the builder, and the estimated construction cost was £1060.

The lower section of the home is finished in stucco, with the upper story clad in plain weatherboard. Being in largely original condition, this home adds significant value to the streetscape of this section of Vivian Street.

The original plans for the home are held by Puke Ariki: ARC2013-1562
