This bungalow was constructed for James Moorby in 1923. A building permit was granted to Moorby by the New Plymouth Borough Council on 8 October 1923, with P. J. Preston noted as the builder, and the estimated construction cost being £685.

Moorby, a retired farmer, purchased New Plymouth Town Section 724 in 1920, and several years after the construction of the present house, he had the property subdivided into two allotments in 1927.

A rear extension (55 Dawson St) was added at a later date.

The house was demolished in late 2021 to make way for a residential development to be known as Dawson Apartments. This is now on hold and the empty section is being used for car parking. (2024)
