This cottage was probably constructed about 1908 or 1909 by/for John Jury.
The Jury's had farmed on Lower Pitone Road, Tataraimaka, until 1908, when Jury sold his coastal farm, and a clearing sale of his stock was held by Newton King in March of that year.
Jury purchased this part of Section 480, Grey District, from 'Okey' in June 1908. Jury probably had the present cottage constructed soon after purchasing the section, and he is first listed as living on Frankley Road in the 1910 edition of Stone's Street Directory.
Whilst John's wife, Elizabeth, sadly died at the cottage on 10 July 1911, just a few years after they moved to Frankley Road, John continued to live at the cottage until July 1921, when the property was sold to H. Hancock.
