A permit was granted to Henry Hallet Mace in Septemer 1924 for the construction of a home on Part Town Section 995 and Part Closed Road (Old Pendarves St deviation) - the builder was S. R. Smith, and the estimated construction cost £2089.
The home was designed by noted New Plymouth architects Messenger, Griffiths and Taylor, who called for tenders for the construction of a "story and a half residence, in brick and wood, on the Carrington Road, New Plymouth, for Mr H. Mace" in August 1924.
Henry Mace and his family originally lived in nearby 'Mace Cottage' (now on Karina Road); and shifted into this home upon its completion in 1924.
