This narrow building at 229-231 Devon Street East was built in 1930 for Mr B. Harkness as an engineering workshop. Town section number 1420 was subdivided in 1928 and this building was erected on Lot 1 of the original town section.
A permit for its construction was issued on 6 June 1930. The builder was Boon Bros. and the estimated cost £800.
Alterations were undertaken in the early 1950's for the firm Russell & Hood.
Other firms to use the building include: Fuji Photo Centre, Company of Tiles Ltd and in 2023 'The Floatation Sanctuary' occupies the building.
