This building was erected for E. Griffiths & Co. in 1907 and was located on the south-eastern corner of Egmont and Ariki Streets.

A permit was issued for the building on 23 November 1906. The estimated cost was £3,080.00 and the architect was Frank Messenger. Mr J.T. Mannix was the contractor with Smart Bros. doing the lighting and Mr Lovegrove the plumbing. Plans held by Puke Ariki (ARC2013-1573).

In 1945 renovations were carried out in order for the Social Security Department to move in. Later, the building was occupied by the New Plymouth City Council Gas Department.

The building was demolished in November 1976 to create a car park. In 2004 the New Plymouth Bus Centre was built on the site.
