This home was probably constructed about 1898 - either for William Courtney or Henry Nathan Goldwater.

Henry Nathan Goldwater was likely the first occupier of the house after purchasing the property from Courtney - Goldwater first appears as living in this location in Devon Street in the 1899 edition of Stones Street Directory.

Henry married in 1898, and it's thought he and his wife moved into this home soon after their wedding. Goldwater was the manager of the New Zealand Clothing Company in New Plymouth.

It seems the Goldwater's occupied the home until about 1912, with a number of different occupiers listed thereafter.

The exterior of the home was completely restored in the early-2000s, and this included the reinstatement of sash windows, and new cladding - it now houses business premises.
