A permit was granted by the Borough Council to E. Douch on 23 October 1935 for the construction of a residence on Town Section 717, Vivian Street - Jones and Sandford were the builders, and the estimated construction cost was £1343.
The home was designed by New Plymouth architecture partnership Griffiths and Stephenson, with the plans held by Puke Ariki ARC2008-183.
In November 1944, fresh orchid sprays grown by Mr Douch (probably at this address) were flown from New Plymouth to London aboard a Royal Air Force Lancaster bomber and were presented to the wife of Sir Winston Churchill.
