This building, located at Port Taranaki, was designed by Messenger, Griffiths and Taylor in 1929, and built by Frank Cooper. A building permit was issued on 16 March 1929 for "Workers Rooms" at an estimated cost of £2,200.
The original plans show an office, large main hall, reading room, locker space, boiler room, showers, washing and toilet facilities. On 21 March 1929 the Taranaki Daily News reported that piles were being driven for the new building and that it was hoped to have it completed by the end of June.
Although it was owned by the Taranaki Harbour Board it was used by the Watersider's Union as an administration centre. It was also used as a social hall for staff functions.
The building was modified in 1953 to accommodate a kitchen and a committee meeting room.
In the 1990s it was used as a facility for members of the Westgate Social Club.
The building was demolished on 4 October 2004 as a result of the on-going expansion of port facilities.
