A permit was granted by the New Plymouth Borough Council to Arthur E. R. Gilbert on 26 January 1933 for the construction of a residence on Lot 8 Town Section 134, Young Street - Gilbert was listed as the builder, and the estimated construction cost was £1500.
One of New Plymouth's finest homes in this style, the house was once a prominent landmark sited on high ground.
The garage was demolished during early February 2020 and soon after on 19 February the house was relocated to a section on Sutton Road, Omata. The removal was necessitated by the expansion to Southern Cross Hospital.
