Little is known about this restored board and batten cottage. However, it is estimated to have been constructed in the 1880s by Christopher Hurlstone, following subdivision of the western end of Gaine Street in 1881.
Section D of Town Belt A, was purchased Christopher Hurlstone in December 1881, following subdivision of the land earlier in 1881. In November 1894, E. Fincham (probably Edward Herbert Fincham), purchased the section. In April 1914, and again in September 1917, the property was conveyed from 'Fincham to Fincham'.
From 1894 until 1918, street directories list a C. Fincham living at this location in Gaine Street - this is probably either Charles Fincham Senior (died in 1920), or Charles Fincham Junior. From 1919 until 1921, both Charles and Edward Fincham are listed as living at this location in Gaine Street, and from 1922 until at least 1934, just Edward Fincham is listed as living at this location.
It is unclear if the cottage was originally clad in vertical board and batten, with the current cladding added when the cottage was renovated. The windows are also thought to be replicas installed when the building was restored.
