This part of Strandon was subdivided and surveyed in 1899 for three developers: E. Wilson, M. Hales & L.A.J. Chilman (DP1288 Subdivisions of Sections 90 & 17 Paritutu SD).
It's not known when the house was built, or for whom, but it was probably either late 1800s or the early 1900s. By 1910 the Bray family are listed as living in the house and they would occupy the house for the next 30 years. The Taranaki Daily News reported on 19 August, 1912 that the funeral of Edwin Bray would leave his residence, "Devon Street, Fitzroy" for the Te Henui Cemetery at 2.00 p.m. on 21 August, 1912. His wife, Martha, remained in the house until her death in 1944.
At some later date the house was bought by Dr. Vincent Conaglen who also used it as his surgery.
More recently it was a residence for "retired gentlemen". The property was then bought by a local trust who had plans to use the house for a special housing project. These were abandoned and the house was placed on the market in January 2015.
The property was sold, the section cleared, subdivided, and new dwellings erected.
